Select Board approves police part-time officer hire and rural grant for culvert work.
Select Board · Meeting of February 5, 2026
Westhampton Select Board unanimously approves police part-time officer and rural infrastructure grant. The board voted 3-0 to allow Police Chief David White to accept applications for a part-time patrol officer through fiscal year 2026, using existing budget funds to boost street patrols and community visibility in response to resident concerns. The board also unanimously approved a $168,000 Community One Stop for Growth grant from the Rural Development Fund for Pine Island Culvert Repairs.
Finance Committee Chair Tad Weiss warned that Westhampton's Proposition 2-1/2 cap is pushing the town toward fiscal unsustainability, noting a potential override will be difficult but necessary as FY2027 budget discussions proceed.
