Westhampton Planning Board denies motocross race permit on zoning grounds. The board unanimously rejected Aaron Bauer's application to hold two annual one-day motocross events at his Main Road property, finding the commercial use incompatible with Watershed Protection Overlay District restrictions. Bauer presented hydrological evidence and safety arguments about distances from neighboring homes, but the five-member board determined that the use cannot be conditionally permitted under zoning bylaws.
Public comment was divided, with some neighbors supporting the event's community value and others citing noise, pollution, and traffic concerns. Board Chair Ms. Milikowsky noted that the overlay district boundaries are set by state regulation and not subject to board review.
