Finance Committee backs $500,000 override for town and schools.
Finance Committee · Meeting of February 25, 2026
Westhampton Finance Committee votes to recommend $500,000 override. Committee Chair Tad Weiss secured a 6-0-0 vote urging the Select Board to place an override question on the ballot to address a $750,000 general fund deficit in FY27. The committee has identified $170,000 in possible cuts but is preparing an austerity budget should the override fail.
Cate Merlin of the Massachusetts Libraries Board of Library Commissioners testified that the town's library must meet a $137,092 Municipal Appropriation Requirement in FY27 to retain state certification and access to a 367-library network; failure triggers a waiver process, and five years of consecutive waivers require a return to full MAR funding.
