Westhampton Finance Committee unanimously approves $9,000 reserve transfer for counsel fees as deficit talk deepens. Chair Tad Weiss reported a newly identified $34,000 shortfall and rejected using free cash or stabilization funds, instead pushing toward a Proposition 2-1/2 override vote set for March 25. Fire Chief David Antosz's budget came in 18 percent under target but can offer only $4,500 in additional cuts; Highway Superintendent William Jablonski warned that Saturday-only transfer station hours would save $12,000 but risk losing state Chapter 90 grant funding; Police Chief David White said he cannot hire an approved part-time officer and may cut hours from 60 to 50 per week if the override fails.
Weiss flagged that final school budgets, expected March 19, could enlarge the deficit further.
